Your local friendly admin is in EST, but I work a midnight-8am shift, so I'm typically asleep in the middle of the day.

You may recall I said this a while ago: That gives me an idea for a mod, actually. Instead of scans taking a fixed amount of time, you have an increasing chance of finding what you're looking for the longer you scan (eventually hitting 100%). You could balance it so that the average scan times are the same, but it would make things less predictable. I've been trying to actually make this mod, as I figured it shouldn't be too hard. Unfortunately, Xcom 2 does not seem to like the idea. The SDK makes it fairly easy to add new functionality, but not so easy to change what's already there. I think the class I need to change literally cannot be overridden, so I can't change how scanning works at all. I'll keep looking into it, but this might require someone with more modding experience than me, ie. someone with more than none. Edit: Yep, not possible. Game State classes cannot be overridden, which seems like a very silly and arbitrary limitation. Looks like this can't be done with the standard SDK.

In my hunt to understand just how much I'd need to do to create a single ability, I came across a thread where a guy was trying to override something impossible. One of the devs popped in and said you do it like this, this and this, but that if you do all that, then you can't really have any other mods. It was all very technical, and completely irrelevant to my needs, but it was interesting. Seems that the answer is you can do it, but why bother for such a minor change?

Exactly. I'm sure I could do it by modifying the game code directly instead of going through the SDK, but then it would almost certainly be incompatible with other mods.

That second picture is awesome.
And why the hell am I an alien collaborator? I was just trying to see if you can play chess with sectoids now they are not stupid.\\
Edit: And the title is gone. Post 23 is dangerous folks. I seen faceless lurking around there.

Shameless self-promotion. I wrote a little story about my agent in the Division and posted it on Reddit. Comments and critique welcome (here or there).

Shameless self-promotion. I wrote a little story about my agent in the Division and posted it on Reddit. Comments and critique welcome (here or there). Big brother is usually phoneticised "Gor gor", as far as I know. Your scene-setting is good - quick and concise enough that it doesn't bore, yet providing enough traction for the characters to interact in meaningful ways. Pacing, likewise, is very good. It's a common trip-up in this type of writing that jumps between scenes, to stay too long on on one scene - but that's not a problem. If I do have any real criticism, it's that these scenes don't really tell us much about the character involved. He has a sister, he's a nice guy, he can handle himself in a fight. Maybe that's what you needed to do, given that the game doesn't lean towards deep RP, but it just seemed a little generic.

Probably goh goh. The R sound doesn't exist in Chinese after all. I just wrote it the way closer to how I used to say it (grew up speaking some Cantonese).
There's some small character establishing lines and themes that I was going for. He's a bit bossy to his sister. He's organized, setting up rationing. He's respected by his students. Bits of character to demonstrate why he was recruited to be a government sleeper agent.
It's series of vignettes though, so yeah it's not a lot of time between setup of each scene to really demonstrate a lot of traits. I just had it inside and wanted to get these thoughts out and on "paper."
Thanks for commenting!

So I've been playing through Half Life 2 again as part of a larger nostalgia trip through my Steam library. Aside from the level transitions occurring way too frequently (holy crap, do you remember those level transitions taking such a long time to load, as well?), I was struck by the sheer creepiness of the Combine overlords. 1984 ain't got nothin' on this, guv'nor. [Minor spoilers for a game that's 12 years old ahead] The first thing I heard was a citizen warning me there's something in the water. He couldn't remember how he got to the city or who he was before. Creepy factor moderate. Then there was a bit about the Combine suppressing human reproductive cycles. Seriously, check it out: half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Breencast (reference "Dr Breen on Instinct") - that is perfectly executed, textbook propaganda. Changing the question, redirecting it, portraying the opposition in a poor light - it's all there. Chillingly well done.
