This thread for discussing what the narrative/story of Season 2 will be, what twists we'll have to the base game story.
Personally, I don't want to deviate very much from the story, as I feel like the best stories will simply be the ones that arise from RP, but I'm open to any good ideas.
My only idea at this point is to have the Commander NOT be the original boss of XCOM. He/She died in the invasion. This new commander would be some kind of tactical prodigy that ADVENT discovered (possibly from analyzing performance in some online game they created which is actually a tactics test/simulator), kidnapped from a gene clinic, and stuffed into the suit. So they would be untested in real combat, with no prior links to XCOM. It's possible, if improbable, that some of the soldiers you play may have known him/her before the kidnapping, if you wanted to try RPing that.
Discuss this or any other ideas you might have!

So are we picking up with the usual XCOM 2 canonical loss where XCOM lost in the first months or are we continuing with the LW playthrough where we got destroyed at the base defense?

I think we should stick closer to canon. Gives us more room for new stories. Obviously if we go with Thenlar's idea above, the Commander will be killed rather than captured.

An early loss in the first few months is what I was thinking yeah.

I do quite like this idea - of a new Commander. It opens up some chances for some soldiers to have a relationship with him, versus the relatively faceless Commander in S1.

Yep. I do indeed agree with the idea! It sounds like it could be fun!

Yeah, the New Commander smell will be something I have to deal with, but I can get on-board with that idea!

I look forward to the inevitable mass-reversion of profile avatars to Kevlar + Ballistics.

With Regards to the recruitment thread, there needs to be a set of restrictions regarding character bios, so as to not have characters that break immersion, forgo the lore, or something else that's just so damn crazy that it won't fit in the RP (Within reason, the craziest characters in S1 that I think are still allowable are AT-3156, and Mike Thomas). Perhaps also some guidelines on RP (once it starts) so we don't have a series of "mishaps" (read: Goats, Sectoid hands, Traffic cones, Bad music on hacked speakers, Battle scanners in the women's bathroom, etc.) causing grief among the actual RPers, for example. Reasonable characters and logical character behavior to keep this LP from going downhill, basically.
I plan on pinning this in the General Information board so new players can have a guide to follow. Besides the obvious, does anyone else have any suggestions to go on there?

Good point. While XCOM is not a military organization and misfits and rogues are accepted, "wacky" characters are definitely not acceptable. Bounds of reality apply, etc etc.

I would hope those guidelines begin with something along the lines of, "when in doubt, ask Thenlar". I wasn't around for the goats or sectoid hands in the first LP, so I don't know what effect that had on the RP, but it seems to me they had a net positive impact on the sequel as a talking point for a certain less-mature hacker and the soldiers to whom she was tasked to speak. Coming from the perspective of an RP guild leader who ran a tight ship (mostly for RP reasons), remember that everyone is playing this RP, not just the players running the missions and board. I urge you not to go heavy-handed on this. Personal note: If Claire's stunt was received so poorly as to be included on a list of mishaps which were disruptive to actual RPers (I don't know if there was another hacked speaker incident), then I truly apologize.

When in doubt, ask a mod or admin. But yeah. Good advice.

When in doubt, ask a mod or admin. But yeah. Good advice. That's fair. See, that was my control freak nature, right there. XD

Personal note: If Claire's stunt was received so poorly as to be included on a list of mishaps which were disruptive to actual RPers (I don't know if there was another hacked speaker incident), then I truly apologize. Bad habit. I can never find a middle ground between too much and too little. I have been either overcompensating or doing too little to pass in things where my actions mattered the most. I know that I shouldn't be too lenient, because I know for a fact that some people can come up with creative ways to fuck things up. I think that's a very great idea to ask Thenlar when in doubt, I just wish it was suggested a little sooner, before I put up the guidelines. To be aware of stuff like this. The only thing I received was Thenlar's approval in the time I waited for answers. After a bit more waiting with no effect, I just went and posted the obvious and little things I picked up around the board (Thenlar's request for skill trees comes to mind here). I'd like to think I wasn't heavy-handed, but once again I cannot get a grasp of the true area of satisfactory results one can expect from a rules/suggestions sort of post. I'll try to be calmer in the future when doing such things. As for your personal note: I was putting it there for comedic effect. They weren't "negative antics," most of them contributed to interesting RP (even if the mishap wasn't actually executed, or the silly thing used wasn't used that much. There were slight problems, for example the Sectoid Hand incident's inopportune timing disrupted another plotline (the EXALT detainee we were interrogating at the time escaped due to newfound plot immunity) and there were significant in-character consequences (Blueshirts were killed and an actual soldier wounded). As for the "bad" music, the music is actually okay to me, I was just assuming the viewpoint of certain characters in the RP for some crazy reason. Even if I DID think your choice of music is bad, that's just MY opinion, and most of the time I treat my own opinion as bullshit anyway because I never take the world seriously. So you're fine!
