Name: James S. Murray
Gender: Male
Hometown: Chicago, USA.
DOB: 31 August, 1981
Physical: Grey hair, shaved thin; blue eyes; clean shaven; athletic build; 6'1", 195 lbs.
Role: Squad Leader/Instructor (Sharpshooter Class, Gunslinger Perks)
Bio: XCOM has a damn long file on Murray. After his mother died in child-birth, James was raised by his father, Steven Murray, a firefighter who had become something of a hometown hero. Contrary to his public image, Steven Murray was an alcoholic who spent most of his free time getting drunk and beating his son. Steven eventually met his fate in 1998, when he fell through a weak section of floor and plummeted 30 meters to his death. The town held a large funeral for the dead hero, which James himself refused to attend. James would soon finish school, and almost immediately enlist in the U.S. Army, hoping to become a Ranger. James passed Ranger training with flying colors, and quickly became a model soldier. James went on to serve 3 tours in Iraq, receiving a Medal of Valor and a Silver Star after being wounded, which led to his honorable discharge in 2007. 6 months later James would be given the opportunity to join Delta Force, which he immediately accepted, eager to join the ranks of the elite. James went on to serve in Delta Force for 8 years, taking part in various high-risk raids all around the world, eventually reaching the rank of Master Sergeant. In 2015 James was transferred to the XCOM project, being assigned as squad leader of Strike-Five. James would only serve in 4 operations however, as XCOM HQ was raided a couple month after it first opened it's doors. James was on a mission in Russia at the time, and it took him a few months to learn exactly what had happened. He and the rest of Strike-Five attempted to strike up a resistance in France in 2018, ending in the deaths of most of the unit and the narrow escape of James Murray.
He's easily one of the best trained men we have, being an ex-Delta, or as he insists, the last surviving Delta. Age has certainly taken it's toll on the old soldier, his hearing has started to go and we think he's going blind in his left eye. Because of his decaying condition we've opted to keep him aboard the Avenger, using him to train the new recruits. James often complains about our recruits, mumbling about going from the best of the best of the best to every punk who knows how to fire a gun.
We've tried to retrace his path for the past 20 years, with little success. He was lost in Russia, reported in France during his resistance attempt, spotted in Mexico in 2020, then in Canada in 2026, and we picked him up in Ireland. He has yet to offer any explanation as to where he was going, or why he didn't join up with any of the other resistance cells which popped up over the years.
